Parenting
My LIFE group just started a study on parenting. We are watching a DVD and then discussing what we've heard. This past week the presenter on the DVD shared a statement that I have been thinking about ever since. The statment was this: "The trend in our culture is to make our children experience-rich and relationship-poor." What do you think about that? Agree? Disagree? Why?

As my experience from the eyes of a teacher, the world wants us to reward children with rich experiences -with material things that will make them "great" achievers. If you achieve this we will do this for you, but the most important lessons that adults can give children are relationships- people who really care about how your children read, learn their memory verses, do on math their test, have they earned their latest scout badge or did they make something that was important to them-- those questions from someone from church make a difference in a child's life. Maybe not at the moment that it happens, but it does: many people can shape a life by caring. I would hope that parents would choose the riches of relationships over material experiences anyday for their children.
