Life after the Olympics

Now that the Olympics are over, I can get back to my normal sleeping patterns. I love the Olympics and I wish they came around sooner. Can you imagine being an Olympic athlete and having to wait four years for another shot at a medal? Or what if you had a bad Olympics? You have to wait four long years for your shot at redemption!

What do you think those athletes do "in the meantime"? As they wait for the Olympics, do you think they take it easy - laying on the couch eating chips and ice cream every day? No! They train in anticipation of what is coming.

2 Peter 3 says that we Christians are to live the same way. We live in hopeful expectation of Christ's return, but what are we doing in the meantime? The return of Christ is not to be used as an excuse to lie around being spiritually lazy. It should inspire us and inform how we live every day.

"So then, dear friends, since you are looking forward to this [Christ's return], make every effort to be found spotless, blameless and at peace with him." 2 Peter 3:14

Ah, while their successes depend upon how hard they work--our spiritual success depends upon how hard we let Christ work in our heart. We "grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ"--[2 Peter 3:18] as we let Him work in our lives and hearts.
