Difficult Questions

Okay, blog readers, I am giving you a head start on one of my latest projects. Our summer series at church on Wednesday nights is going to be called "Difficult Questions." Next week I will be asking our congregation to submit topics/questions that they would like for me (and others) to address. But I thought I would give my "loyal readers" (are there any?) a chance to be the first to submit questions. If you don't want to post your question here, you can email me.

So, what "difficult question" would you like to have answered?

Rusty,

I had not noticed, before your last sermon series, what Jesus said to the disciples when appearing to them. Namely John 20:22 ".....and said, receive the Holy Spirit"

So my question is: How does the reception of the Holy Spirit then differ from the day of Pentecost [in regard to what they received not the method]? Or does it differ? If it does not differ why were they to wait for the promise?

I do see that in John there is no mention of power as in Acts 1. Was the power the ability to speak in tongues [other languages] and to heal and the Holy Spirit in John 20 what we receive at baptism today?

Rusty,

For the next four weeks in the college class, I'm going to tackle a subject I'm calling "Sabbath Economics". The premise and inspiration for this class might provide an interesting question to be tackled:

How can we recreate an Acts 2 community (characterized by worship and radical sharing) in 21st century American society?
